KNUST Alumni inaugurates Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Alumni inaugurates Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program in 2018

Professor William Otoo Ellis, Chairman, Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (MCFSP at KNUST) and Former Vice-Chancellor, KNUST, has inaugurated the MCFSP at KNUST Alumni Association.

The inaugural ceremony saw over forty 40 Scholars in the final year who would be graduating in July this year in attendance. The ceremony was also graced by some executives of the KNUST Global Alumni Association, Dean of Students, Alumni Officer and staff of the MCFSP at KNUST Secretariat.

Launching the MCFSP at KNUST Alumni Association, Professor Otoo Ellis said the graduation of the first batch of Scholars of the Program and the inauguration is the result of the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders in the Program and congratulated them for the success of the Pragram.

Professor Otoo Ellis expressed his excitement about the performance of the Scholars as most of them have changed in all aspects for the better and for the fact that half of the Scholars due for graduation are in the first class category.

He indicated that the beneficiaries having had a holistic training and capabilities must give back to society and eschew greediness as they go into the world. He further entreated them to be grateful for the opportunity given them and to be content at all times.

Professor William Gariba Akanwariwiak, Dean of Students, charged the alumni to go out into the world and serve and not to be served. Professor Gariba said the Scholars should possibly impact society and make a difference as worthy ambassadors of KNUST. He continued that they should not forget their alma mater but to keep the institution in mind.

Mr. Kwasi Agbesi, Vice President of the KNUST Global Alumni Association, highlighted the importance of being a KNUST alumnus. Mr. Agbesi said the Alumni Association provide a unified ground for all graduates of KNUST to mobilise themselves and resources, remain relevant to contribute to the development of the alma mater and the country as a whole.

He encouraged them to register and join the chapters wherever they may be in the world and pledged the support of the executives to keep them informed on all activities and to support initiated projects when they start working.

Dr. Kofi Owusu Daaku, Lead of the MCFSP at KNUST for the Vice-Chancellor, thanked staff of the MCF Secretariat for ensuring and maintaining an open and transparent system of selection and management since its inception.

Dr. Owusu Daaku congratulated the Scholars and encouraged them to face the real world as both KNUST and MCFSP at KNUST alumni.
